Project Objective:
To develop a clash free BIM model that provides visual aid for easy and efficient installation of plumbing, hydronic and fire protection systems in a commercial & hospital building.
Technology/Software Used:
Revit – MEP
Challenges:
1: Client wanted a complete 3D model with LOD-300 for all the plumping and hydronic services
2: Clash detection across the MEP, architecture and structural disciplines was also requested
3: The modeling and coordination had to be done in such a way that it did not affect the flow and design parameters
Engineering Solution:
The project execution involved development of well coordinated BIM with LOD 300 for plumbing, and hydronic systems in a Commercial & Hospital building.
1: Inputs received in the form of 2D drafts and designs were examined
2: 3D BIM was created in Revit MEP 2012, using the 2D drafts and drawings
3: Further the designs were analyzed for clashes – interdisciplinary and across civil engineering disciplines
4: All the clashes across architectural, structural and MEP disciplines were detected and reported for mitigation
5: Furthermore a clash free model was created
6: 3D model with insulation detail and direct use for construction reference was thereby prepared and project was handed over to client
Benefits
1: The project spanned across a period of 2 months, within this time frame a well coordinated 3D BIM Model was delivered
2: The model served as a visual aid for easy and efficient installation of plumbing and hydronic systems
3: Access to required details during construction was easy
4: It also became easy to schedule and determine quantities
5: A Clash free model carrying all the detail about plumbing and hydronic services , enabled smooth execution of construction activities
6: As a result client could execute and deliver project within proposed time limits.
7: Further what lies at the crux, is that construction costs were reduced to a great extent
