The origin of this vineyard dates back to the penultimate
century. With the establishment of
a cooperage in Würzburg Pleich, the great-grandfather laid the foundation of
the family business. In 1980, the “Weingut am Stein” was moved to its current
location. Now, the Knoll vineyard lies in the middle of the famous “Würzburger
Stein”, at the foot of the “Steinweinlehrpfad”.
In 2003 and architecture competition is announced at the
request of family Knoll. Four architecture offices from Würzburg are invited to
design a new building for the sale of wine, a prelude building to the vineyard
as well as the design of the courtyard. Hofmann Keicher Ring won the
competition.
