The weddingThe once or sometimes twice in a life time event of a marriage is the topic of this work. The plain truth disenchants the believe of a lifelong love. Surprisingly the number of second marriages is increasing and very high as well.The suprising number of second marriages proves that the believe in the blessing of the marriage stays relatively unbowed.The second marriageis the triumph of the hope over the rationality.Samuel Johnson.Chapel seeks lakeWith this project I would like to put the usual approach on its head and instead of looking for ideas for a certain place, this time an idea is looking for place.I search for is a community (with a lake) that is interested in this project and I search for an investor (public or private) that wants to implement this project with me.The designThe wedding party strolling through the woods which surround the lake. When reaching the shore, they will see the chapel that reminds of a little, inconspicuous boathouse. The little landing stage leading to the church has a turning, the last possibility to still change your mind and escape the following ceremony...the double doors are opening and the wedding party is entering the church. The interior is open towards the lake and also ends right at the water. Now you can see the other part of the chapel. It is floating in the lake and contains the altar where the pastor is awaiting the couple......the journey begins. The land part is floating towards the lake part, the smell of the water and the woods is filling the interior. Then the two parts meet each other and are creating a unit. This is when the actual ceremony is happening in the enclosed and protective atmosphere.Marriage ceremonyBy lining up these impressions of various spaces, nature and the bride and groom are in the center of attention. This reflects the uniqueness and happiness of the whole event ‘wedding’. From the outside, the church appears very discreet and its weathered look appears rather charming – in contrary to its impressive but at the same time simple, elegant interior.
