Page & Turnbull has assisted the Webb Schools, a boarding school for grades 9 through 12, on a number of projects, including:

The Copeland Donahue Theater

Recessed into a steep site, the new Copeland Donahue Theater takes advantage of Claremont’s mild climate and includes interiors that open to the outdoors, as well as a teaching program woven into the site. Performances take place under the canopies of mature oak trees and vertical access is integrated into the hillside to connect the theater with upper level control booths. The theater’s palette includes concrete brick, stucco, wooden windows and doors, and clay tile roofing. Completely flexible lighting and sound systems provide the students the opportunity to learn and experiment in theater technical art, and to put on plays, musicals, movies, readings and lectures.

Susan A. Nelson Performing Center

The Mudd Auditorium was designed in 1971 by Flewelling and Moody. The design for the renovated auditorium provides additional balcony seating for approximately 100 guests, for a total theater capacity of 400. The renovated auditorium now accommodates a full range of performances: orchestra, musical theater, drama, and dance. Additional spaces also include an art gallery dedicated to student work in the lobby, choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, individual practice rooms, dressing rooms, and offices for the fine arts faculty, all highlighting the arts and humanities curriculum at the school.

Dormitories

Multiple dormitories and faculty residences have required recent upgrades and rehabilitation, since parts of some buildings were put into service in 1936. At a boarding school, dormitories serve a primary function – and the quality of the dorms is pivotal to vibrant student life. At Webb, upgrades addressed accessibility compliance, telephone and data networking, and other maintenance improvements to preserve and enhance these residence halls.
