Dreyers Fond and the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) have joined forces to create a showroom at BLOX, the new gathering point for Danish architecture, design and new ideas. The showroom is in a staircase gallery in the central foyer and is showing the next wave of Danish architecture - told and conveyed by a number of invited talented and distinguished young Danish architectural companies.
As a recipient of the Dreyers Fond’s grant WE got the distinguished opportunity to show our work at BLOX to the outside world and thereby gain a voice in the debate about new Danish architecture.
Our exhibition called “WE” was kicked off Thursday the 18th of October and will be open until Friday the 2nd of November. The design concept is inspired by letting the floor of our office drop down over the staircase gallery in a pixelated design, in which we have integrated both workstations and our projects, presented trough models, renders, technical drawings, sketches etc.
The theme of the exhibition is community, while displaying a real and direct insight in how we work as architects. Therefore, we have temporarily moved a part of our office into BLOX for visitors to explore our projects, engage in conversation with our architects or simply hang out, drink coffee and read a book. For us, community is the centre of our architecture, creative processes and work environment alike. The office should feel like an open-minded home in which all are welcome and equally involved. Here a relaxed and playful energy prevails, transcending into our architectural end product – an energy we want to share.
The studio is our engine room – our beating heart – into which we would like to provide you with a direct insight. That is why we have moved a group of architects to DAC, creating a pop-up studio. We do it in order to demonstrate the underlying processes behind the architecture we create, in the most honest and open way that we can: An actual insight into our everyday life and an opportunity to meet our architects at work.
During our work process we have a special focus on community – we take great pride in creating an energetic working community. We develop projects through an open process where the architecture is a result of close cooperation between all involved parties, from the end user and the developer to collaborators such as engineers and entrepreneurs, rather than created by an architect alone. When all is said and done, we are united in the creation of architecture.
When we shape architecture we create the frame for future communities. Our task is therefore essential: Focusing on community, we as architects must create the optimal conditions for the years to come. The physical settings may influence people to create new relations or take care of those already existing. As an example, a staircase may be wider than necessary in order to create space for the meeting of people. We strategically choose projects in which opportunities for innovative solutions in the framework of community, as well as the development of new ways to participate herein, are present. In the projects we ask ourselves; “How do the users of this house receive more than a building? Where do they find space to build new relations?”
A huge thanks to Wood Couture, Fritz Hansen and Nathalie Schwer for contributing to our exhibition.
