Way Station: East River With the intent of creating a new way of experiencing the East River and the expansive views across to the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, This project was designed as if unfolded from the boardwalk underneath the FDR and extended down and out over the East River. The form is largely driven with the intent of framing specific views of the bridges and city skyline while also providing a sense of enclosure to mitigate the the effects of noise pollution created by the FDR overhead. The structure is oriented with perforations on the east and west facades to allow for dramatic light/shadow effects in the morning and afternoon while simultaneously providing necessary shading during the midday sun.
