The Waverly Place House is a conversion of a former “French Flat" style apartment house into an expansive single family home. The proposed scheme relocates the vertical circulation to the heart of the building, and opens up the central space to the sky. This creates a sectional play of spaces that expand as one gets deeper into the house, and saves the full width of the house for properly sized and proportioned rooms, thereby increasing the interior space’s access to light. The street facade is carefully restored inside and out. The rear facade is fully opened up and re-organized with extensive glazing introduced to further open the building up to the neighborhood and bring light into the house and tell the story of what is happening programmatically inside. The house will support a family of 6 and includes a sub-grade pool, exterior terrace space at numerous levels, a full-floor master suite, and a media center.
