"Finger”, with terraces in-between. One of the last beautiful properties at the foot
of the Gaisberg overlooks the town and fortress on the Kühbergstrasse in
Salzburg Parsch and is currently an overgrown, steep slope. The concept: After a former project failed to to the presence
of the building mass in the hillside, the problem of dissolving the building
mass presented itself. 2 measures were taken: 1. Much transparency as possible – meaning glass. Glass makes a building more light, but
does not reduce its presence. 2. A wave form to reduce the building length. The waves run differently on each floor to get
terraces. Similar to two interlacing hands, the upper fingers form the
residential areas while the lower ones form the terraces. One
advantage is the limited visibility into the terraces, as they are surrounded
only by their own home. Floors: As many floors as
possbile were placed into the slope. Again, the waveform
proved advantageous because of the slopes steepness (up to 45°) as well as its
being bent. In such a double-curved surface the shape of a wave presents itself
as ideal. According to the building authorities, only
2 stories and a recessed 3rd floor were to be visible. To the specifications of the apartments given by the
developer, four floors as well as a TG-Floor were planned. Through the skillful
cutting of the hillside and recession of the lowest two terraces, only two and
a half floors remained visible from street level.
