Cool materials of metal and wood, a crisp contour and refined simplicity characterize the new floating house called ‘WoonArk VErtrouwen’ a.k.a. ‘WAVE’ in Amsterdam Noord. The design expresses the special location on the transition from a small scaled residential neighbourhood on the eastside to an industrial raw business park on the westside.
A varied program of high, low, large and small spaces and different floor heights develops under the wavy roof. Together this creates a loft-like house full of surprising spatial connections and views.
From the material and the roof shape we recognize a distant descendant of the floating Event building ‘Undercurrent’ (former visitor centre IJburg), also designed by Attika Architekten.
