The Santo Domingo House was derived from the landscape that surrounds the house. This was my first inspiration. Its sits adjacent to a mass of water and subtle mountains that undulated along the horizon in tones of Grey and black. I was invited to Santo Domingo on a Healing retreat by my client and friend Dr. Jorge Cornielle who is a visionaire and owner of the Healing Space Medical Building I designed in 2010 (1262 Boston Road Medical Center). My client further introduced me more to the culture of Dominican republic and and his Brother with endless Dreams that I had to make happen. The house is meant to cater visitors of the family and friends and my clients concerns was to create a space that is entertaining and a place to enjoy. My functional motive was to allow the space to breathe and live with the landscape.
