The area, le Pré-Saint-Gervais, once known for an industrial suburb of Paris, is today undergoing a process of transformation, where consistent portions of the urban fabric, warehouses and industrial artifacts, with the memory they represent, are being transformed by high rise residential and office space projects.
This is a complete renovation and restructuration of an old warehouse, formerly utilized for aeronautical manufacturing.
The new use of working space and recording studios, was guided by a conceptual premise of preserving and enhancing the existing body of the building, its metal structure, and the traditional factory shape.
The project is organized on two levels. One existing ground level, and a new upper level.
The spacious hallway on the ground floor, made of red terra cotta stones, features some of the original industrial textures such as raw concrete and metal.
The large wooden window frames and doors, and the central glass roof provide a flood of natural light while the plants and vintage furniture warmly welcome the visitors.
All functional space, workspace, living space and recording studios on both floors are organized around this main hallway, and connected by a white spiral staircase.
The stairs elegantly provide a smooth and enjoyable walk with a view of the entire warehouse.
On the second floor, there is an employee sector, which includes an open kitchen, office space, a meeting room and an outdoor terrace.
By inserting lots of natural light and living spaces into an existing warehouse, we have created a warm and livable environment, which makes someone feel home.
