This is one part of a series of projects that investigate the parallax between the built environment and our memory or perception of that environment. Each part is realized through the fabrication of three artifacts: Artifact 01. the drawing: serves as both design document/construction drawing and palimpsest record of the construction of the second artifact.Artifact 02. the wire construct: a representation of the iconographic structure, typically demolished or a historic structure threatened by demolition.Artifact 03. the cyanotype: using the earliest form of photography, a shadow of the wire construct is cast across this photosensitive paper. This shadow is a distortion of the actual built structure and becomes a metaphor for the perception and memory that we hold and rewrite to our own personal histories.--nikola tesla epitomized the label of being a man before his time. in 1901, james s. warden supplied the land, jp morgan provided the funds and with that, tesla constructed a tower that would provide wireless communication between shoreham, long island and england. during his research he discovered a method that would enable the transmission of power without cables. jp morgan balked at the idea that power could be provided as a free service and withdrew his financial support. with not funding the project sat idle until 1917 when the tower was demolished.--this project was made possible by the generous funding by the MacDowell Colony and the Graham Foundation
