The large town garden of our Wandsworth clients extends out as a 100-sqm wide rectangle from the living rooms with an elegant iroko hardwood deck in the same pattern & level as the interior wood flooring, producing a contemporary indoor-outdoor expansiveness.
In the seating zones near the kitchen, where a mature Willow tree in the neighbouring garden casts shade, we planted subtropical floras to infuse lush foliage in rendered raised beds. An L-shaped built-in corner bench anchors the main social hub, while on the patio deck, stately Yellow Bamboo canes emanate from neat Box hedges.
On the sunny side of the garden, coastal floras adapted to dryness feature 2 Agave species & Tamarix in gravel beds, along a square low raised herb bed in the corner. 3 low Box hedges distinguish the various zones, framing the patio and creating an entrance into the sunken BBQ hub.
Innovative detailing is featured in all the garden elements, from stone treads above iroko fascias in the steps, to varied board widths for the deck & shading in render colours to extend depth. Stainless steel lighting is chicly recessed into step risers, on the deck and as ambient downlighters. Various aggregate sizes mulch the ground to provide a neat finish.
A sunken BBQ area opposite the sun lounge enjoys views of the entire garden, bathed in foliage, led into via 4 steps. The smooth beige Yorkstone pavers were uniquely quarried at a colossal 80cm x 80cm size. Laid in a modern stacked grid, the huge flagstones create superior roominess.
Selected plants include Aralia, Cornus, Achillea, Bamboo, Box, Agave, Cactus in milky-white ceramic pots, Hosta, Cordyline, Phormium, grasses, herbs, palms, Tamarix, Fatsia, ferns, Daylily &, Passion flower & Maple.
