Our art collector client had moved to a large modern home with a tiny outdoor space 25 sqm in size. An existing pond, wine room, sculpture, rain chains and a brick wall provided elements we wanted to retain and expand on.
We heightened the brick wall, spanning the length of the patio, adding recessed bays to display art, with sandstone details and recessed lights. We enlisted Sally Ellwood to create sgraffito render inside the bays, complementing the fresco finishes of the interior.
Balau decking provides a patio for seats & a fire feature, contrasted by smooth sandstone paving around the pond. A bespoke tapered planter features a Palm, with a floating detail, circular top, lighting and slate mulch.
A wire vine cascades in a planter above the pond pump, concealing the gear. Heuchera is planted in troughs on the balcony above, framing the view with dainty blooms & foliage.
A slender copper figure in the water is contrasted by a David Klein stone bust in the first wall bay. Both these neutral elements are accentuated by orange round patio seaters.
Indoor-outdoor vistas are relished on 3 sides, via the living room doors, the wine room and from lower eye-level in the basement. Irrigation & lighting add basic facilities, while sculpture displays change often as our client continues collecting contemporary art.
