"The sauna is an apotheosis of all experience: Purgatory and paradise; earth and fire; fire and water; sin and forgiveness. It is eternal new birth. You are healed, you are made new."
Constance Malleson 1936
GO'C designed and built the floating sauna with the help of friends and collaborators fundraising and volunteering to make this concept a reality. We have been interested in floating structures since designing the 'spirit pavilion' for an international ideas competition for the re-use of Seattle's 520 floating bridge. Coupled with a love of saunas, we felt it would be a fitting project for Seattle, a city surrounded by water and known for its long winters. The purpose of the sauna is to create a place of refuge for locals, to give them a new perspective on their city and provide a space to relax, reflect and reinvigorate out on the water year round.
The structure was funded by friends and collaborators following a Kickstarter campaign and was built by GO'C and a handful of dedicated makers and volunteers. The sauna will be available for use in September of 2015.
