W House embodies a unique approach to residential design, characterised by spatial experimentation and the skilful manipulation of architectural elements to achieve harmonious proportions. The house stands as a testament to the power of design in fostering meaningful interactions and enhancing the overall living experience. The principle guides the organisation of W House, employing a grid system with modular dimensions of 4.2 meters and 3.3 meters. The larger modules accommodate a communal space such as a living area, a dining area, a study area, and a kitchen while the smaller modules define a service space like bathrooms, passages, and a staircase. This arrangement ensures a balance between functionality and visual appeal.
The layout of W House is characterised by a clear division between the Common Area and the private sleeping quarters. This separation is achieved through a thoughtful arrangement of architectural elements, minimising the reliance on
traditional walls and doors. Instead, columns, varying roof heights, and double volumes serve as defining elements, creating distinct spatial zones while maintaining a sense of openness and interconnectedness. A key feature of the home is its inherent flexibility, allowing residents to adapt the spaces to suit their evolving needs and preferences. This adaptability stems from the strategic use of three types of walls: solid walls for privacy in areas like bedrooms and bathrooms, translucent polycarbonate walls for diffused natural light, and glass walls for visual connection and enhanced light penetration.
W House stands as a paradigm of contemporary residential design, showcasing the transformative potential of spatial experimentation and architectural ingenuity. Through its emphasis on flexibility, interconnectedness, and adaptability, W House fosters a harmonious living environment that caters to the diverse needs and aspirations of its inhabitants.
