VRBANI DAY CARE CENTRE IN ZAGREB
The day care centre site is surrounded by a wide road with two-sided parking and a small creek on the north-east side. Space has been created so that it functions as a micro world secluded from the outside world by a monolith building in the north-west and an artificially created terrain in the south-east.
The form of the house is the result of a surrounding architecture and its position in the existing micro situation. The building emerges from the ground as one shape and its slanted roof blends with the landscape. The building composition creates an intimate space for play. Playing and rolling (or sledging in the winter) takes place both in and on the house. The terrain and playing surfaces merge together. Child’s movement is uninterrupted at the point of the roof’s descent and it continues to the grassy landscape. The movement stops at the entrance to the nursery unit yet continues into the central part of the playing area.
