VooDoo is a Town of Telluride–led mixed-use, affordable housing development designed to support essential workers and strengthen year-round community in downtown Telluride, Colorado. Located on a 0.39-acre infill site at 8,754 in elevation, the project delivers 27 deed-restricted homes for households earning 110–170% of AMI, paired with 3,000 square feet of commercial space prioritized for local businesses.
Residential units range from studios to four-bedrooms, accommodating individuals and families employed in essential roles throughout the community. Interiors are organized for daylight, mountain views, and access to private outdoor space. Below-grade parking and all-electric systems reinforce a pedestrian-oriented, low-carbon lifestyle in the heart of downtown.
VooDoo advances Telluride’s sustainability goals through an all-electric, high-performance design. A rooftop photovoltaic array offsets the snowmelt system and creates capacity for future expansion toward net-zero operations. The project achieves a Benchmark EUI of 48 and meets the 2018 IECC, supported by a carefully tuned 21% window-to-wall ratio that balances daylight, views, and energy performance.
The design responds closely to its setting. A palette of brick, concrete, wood, and metal references Telluride’s mining and industrial heritage, while a composition of flat and gabled rooflines echoes the surrounding historic “crib” structures. These cues allow the building to integrate seamlessly into the town’s architectural fabric while introducing a contemporary, durable expression.
Beyond housing, the development strengthens community life through subsidized local retail, a public restroom, a small youth hangout, and the relocated “Free Box,” a long-standing Telluride resource for sharing goods. These elements contribute to a more active and inclusive neighborhood.
VooDoo balances context, affordability, and environmental performance while strengthening downtown Telluride, providing essential workers with well-connected housing that supports a resilient, year-round community.
