The stadium is a monumental structure designed to entertain thousands of people simultaneously and this implies loud noise and strong illumination. Therefore, it isn’t advisable to build it in densely constructed urban areas. The stadium is also a beautiful, architecturally significant structure and its being visible in the horizon of the city is desirable. As a large number of people attend it, the stadium should be easily reachable. The hill in the south-west of Yerevan is the very place that meets the challenge. The positioning of the stadium on the hill creates a unique atmosphere, which resembles a volcano with its crater.This multifunctional stadium is designed for various sporting events and other cultural activities. It meets all the stadium requirements to host major football events of nowadays. The capacity of the stadium is about 60 000 spectators. It provides all kinds of facilities to satisfy the needs of people of different ages and the ones with disabilities. All the seats of the stadium are under the cover and have unobstructed field of view. The first storey is lifted up for 60 cm from the field level, and horizontal net method is used to prevent spectators from going out onto the field without impeding the use of the field as an emergency evacuation route. The first storey consists of 38 sectors with 29 rows each, and there are 25 seats on average in a row. There are 1.4 m wide staircases between the sectors. The small number of seats in the rows provides more secure and rapid evacuation.There are 5 tunnels in the first storey , one for the athletes and the rest for the security and other purposes. The main grandstand of the second storey is divided into lower and upper parts.The lower part which is designed for the VIP spectators consists of 9 sectors with 10 rows each, the last of which is for people with disabilities. There is also a separate restaurant for the VIP spectators with a view of the pitch. Overall, there are 1380 VIP seats. The upper part consists of 3 rows. There are 18 presidential and 96 VVIP seats in the middle and next to them from both sides there are skyboxes with outdoor seats. There are 33 sectors with 19 rows each allocated for the common spectators. Each row in the sector has 25 seats on average. The third storey has 42 sectors, where the rows range from 17 to 30 and as in the other storeys the number of seats in each row is 25 on average as well. There is a platform for the main broadcast camera installed on the first three rows of the main grandstand central sector. Depending on the requirements of the event, some part of the central sectors can be provided for the media. There is a possibility of installing tables for them as well. A part of the stadium roof is made of glass which allows to direct rays of the sun onto the grass, which ensures a higher quality of the pitch. The rest of the roof is made of white translucent cloth material pulled on the carcass which consists of metal elements and ropes. As a result, the shadow of the roof is very weak and does not disturb the spectators and broadcasters. There are also restaurants, playrooms, shops, kiosks and other services. The stadium accumulates and uses collected rain water from the roof.
