We wanted to create a pleasant feeling for children to experience every day. The entry plaza for V. V. V. Metric School aims to provide a sense of joy, celebration, playfulness, cheerfulness, and a "happy day" feel to all who enter, pass by, or view the school.
Features include: a water cascade; a water body with ducks, swans, etc.; a clock tower; a low-hung, curved green entry arch; shaded pathways covered with pergolas; an amphitheater; temple and meditation spaces; a 1000-square-foot R. C.; a canopy with geometrical shapes and alphabets that casting interesting shadows on the ways that the little ones step on; and two large trees with circular seating beneath. These features make the young ones feel that they are entering a new land of learning, playing, and laughing.
This school in Sriperumbudur is located in the middle of mango groves, in order to serve the children of neighboring small towns. The design aims to create plenty of interior playing spaces. The midday and afternoon sun is severe, so many shaded or partly covered courtyards, large patios, etc. are envisaged.
Wide staircases and corridors, slow learners' corners in classrooms, science corners, tech corners, and maths corners are planned at interesting junctions. Principles of vasthu are integrated in the plan. Children-friendly elements are incorporated into smart classrooms, and a new concept of teaching systems and tools are part of every classroom. Learning while playing is the philosophy for the junior years.
