From its celebrated opening in 1995 until its closing in 2009, the Virgin Megastore in Times Square was the largest music/media retail environment in the world. The 75,000 square–foot store was one of the first projects in New York City that successfully exploited retail space below ground level by creating two 2-story spaces. Spectaculars from this famous district were incorporated into the design but made appropriate for the retail environment through the use of high quality materials and innovative detailing.
