The owner of this Seattle residence was seeking to build a home that he could grow into, in terms of both function and family, while maintaining a crisp, modern aesthetic. A dramatically sloping Corten form wraps continuously around three sides of the home’s exterior, with the remaining surface clad in horizontal cedar planks, which was charred by hand on site.
To create continuity between interior and exterior spaces, the upper level concrete floor extends outside to the roof deck. Overhead, the Corten steel finish of the eaves continues into the living room where the entire ceiling is clad in the same material. These details help to reinforce the connection between interior and exterior while maintaining a minimal material palette.
