Opened in spring 2012, covering an area of 1200m², the Salon of Honour was conceived by the architect Albert Louvet. At the beginning of the 1900s, it was
used for exhibitions and original theatre plays. Accessible through the Balcony of Honour, a monumental door capped by a glass roof, with mouldings, a parquet
floor and wood finishings…
Paris Photo opens this new space that, in 2012, will be Paris Photo’s VIP Lounge: a place to meet, a place to rendezvous, a place for receptions dedicated to
collectors, gallery owners and the partners of the Fair. The project designed by interior architect Teresa Sapey uses the idea of floating panels covered with fabric like the «Silken Velvet Café» designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1927, to be assembled and disassembled in different European locations.
Core of the idea is to create harmonious and sinuous spaces using suspended ethereal elements; the fabric become the main construction material that creates
the effects of solids and voids with its perfectly, rhythmic and architectural folds. So in the end, the majestic view of this elegant and imposing space, ends with a
video projection of a fire, symbolizing the fireplace but although one of the vital elements essential to our survival.
Light as a material and not only a decorative element, draw, with a precise theatricality, a determined and elegant space, creating surprise effects but also environments for conviviality.
The furniture entirely edited by Vita, becomes an intrinsic part of the space, as fine microarchitecture of living and see. In these islands where the multifunctional
visitor will become an actor in various activities, from cultural, interactional, or the food and then not forgetting those of the relaxation, typical and very sought after in all longue.
