The thick guiding wall of the structure is rooted into the earth of
Napa Valley California. The wall represents the Stem of the project,
growing and protecting the 'plant' from harsh winds and weather. The
buildings branch off the stem-like wall and the southern facade of the
buildings opens up as the buildings 'leaves' to catch the sunlight
allowing the building to grow, flourish, and guide visitors along their
winery exploration.
The thick concrete wall guides visitors along the path allowing them
to stop and learn about the winery along the way. At moments between
the buildings areas of the wall carve out to form niches for people to
sit, relax, and enjoy views of the vineyard.
Toward the end of the path the guiding wall begins to thin and break
down, creating more niches. The niches among the ruins become seating,
shelving for glasses,
and wine display. This area relates to the tasting room, located at the
end of the visitor's journey.
