The “Rivus” project is our response to an ambitious architectural competition task to create a space that would shape the identity of Perkūnkiemis and be attractive, functional, and open all year round.
When designing “Rivus”, we responded to the real situation of this place – it is a densely built-up area with a lack of not only high-quality public spaces but also greenery itself. Currently, there is a gravel road where people simply park their cars. We wanted to completely transform this area, making it not only functional but also emotionally accessible to residents, lively, inviting them to stop and stay.
Our goal was to create a space full of greenery – a kind of breathing space between densely built apartment buildings. A space that naturally encourages movement, rest, and encounters. We wanted it to be not just a square, but a place that creates a sense of nature – with trees, soft relief, natural materials, and green areas that visually and emotionally soften the urban intensity of this area.
Inspired by the motif of a river, we designed “Rivus” as a space that flows, organically connecting people, activities, and elements of nature. Everything here is planned to create not only a sense of movement but also a sense of discovery – the paths wind their way through the space, inviting you to turn, stop and look around.
The fountain becomes the accent and center of attraction of this square. It functions as an artistic object, creating a contrast between the softness of the natural environment and the strict architecture surrounding it. It is a place where people want to meet – for celebrations, concerts, or just to relax with a book or a cup of coffee.
Sustainability principles were an integral part of the project – from the choice of materials to solutions that reduce energy and water consumption and allow the quality of the space to be maintained for a long time.
“Rivus” is a public space that inspires people to live, move, and interact in a more sustainable, harmonious, and meaningful way.
