Villa Viima, a luxurious private cottage located in Finnish Lapland, is surrounded by the rugged nature of Levi’s Utsutunturi. Rough gray kelo-logs cover the boulder-shaped building rising from the hillside plot. Kelo-wood combined with elements of glass, rock and metal create an elegant whole. Modern luxury and nature can be seen comprehensively in every detail of the villa, both inside and outside.
The design of the villa started with a site visitand a drone flight over Utsuvaara. After this careful analysis, the first sketches were made. Right from the start it was clear the spectacular views open to three main directions; towards Levitunturi, the distant landscape over the valley and straight to the sky were aurora borealis are.
The sparsely placed indoor levels create a smaller-scale appearance and offer versatile striking views. The main entrance to the first floor leads into a high ceiling hallway. Half level up, the staircase leads to cozy, large living area. The living area offers an almost 360-degree view of Utsuvaara and Levitunturi, and in addition a glimpse of sky from the roof of the lobby.
On the right side of the entrance there is an area for three double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. Unique feature of two of the bedrooms is skylight window to make sure you have the best possibility to observe northern lights. On the second floor, there is the master bedroom and a lounge room with a roof terrace, both with a skylight window.
In the basement floor heart of this floor is the lounge room & bar that serves different purposes from movie night to relaxing cocktail moment by the fireplace. Another attraction is unique dressing room and shower room solution that leads into two-floor sauna with big glass window. The sauna is inspired by a traditional two-floor Finnish sauna, which was used to dry crops from fields.
The villas materials have been treated in an innovative and modern way. The big kelo-logs are dominant in the interior spaces, but in addition to that, sliced logs have been used in walls. Wood and natural stone are paired together with glass and metal, dark grey tiles and oak parquet. Design tones are earthy and inspired by the surrounding Lappish nature.
The interior design complements the architecture and adds a home-like finish. Many pieces of furniture have been designed and custom made for the villa, such as 3,5 meters long wooden dining room table. In addition, Nordic classics from Finnish and Danish manufacturers have been used in the interior.
