The Royan villa project is located on a site with an area of 375m² in Royan, Mazandaran province. The main design challenge of the project is the site being apart from the main passage and surrounded by several buildings. Responding to this disadvantage, the design team has proposed balconies and the roof space to provide nice spots overlooking the beach and mountains.
The site’s characteristics have led the designers to create a simple cubic building. The recesses and protrusions are placed according to the surrounding landscape to offer various views. Furthermore, the balconies have created a proper building composition besides providing pleasant views from the interior and offering natural ventilation.
Preservation of all the existing trees was an important objective for the design team. The other goal of the project is to provide picturesque views for the interior spaces. Therefore, the windows frame diverse and wide views of the mountains, the sea, and the surrounding gardens.
The interior staircase provides interior vertical access from the ground floor to the roof. It also offers different views from different elevations and contributes to the visual diversity as well.
The building’s roof is considered a four-season place to be used throughout the year. The roof benefits from a two-way view of the mountains and the beach.
The parking lot is located under the main balcony to free up more space in the yard.
In facade design, the team determined to apply compact, bright bricks. The vertical stack bonding of the bricks beside the nano-coating facilitates the transmission of rainwater on the surface. Vertical white bricks are employed in combination with dark-colored metal sheets, railings, and window frames. Generally, material choice and all other design decisions were based on the feasibility within a normal budget.
