The design for the Villa Ouborg, a private house in Amsterdam, refers to the ideas of the International Style (1920-1960): Light, Air and Space. These ideas are the concept for the neighbourhood of the house. The qualities are present especially in the main living area –living room, kitchen, dining room- since there are as less limitations as possible. At the side of the street the main living area is rather closed. When entering the house the front door and hallway are invisible at first, due to a stone wall. The wall has been lifted from the street level and seems to float. Above the open floor plan two abstract volumes are floating, containing the other functions with a less public character. The more closed character of the bedrooms reduces sounds and sun-heat. The garden is an integral part of the house. Entering the house you get a splendid view of the garden, that has something to offer the year through.
