Villa
Lefkas
Greece
The
‘villa Lefkas’ is situated on a steep mountain slope which offers a magnificent
view over te Lefkas-bay and surrounding mountains.
The
villa is designed to capture these specific contextual conditions and
experience it from within.
To
enable surroundings to enter the villa, the villa has a central open living
space, the loggia. This loggia is two stories high and is the most important
place during the day.
Within
the loggia the terrace continues from inside to outside which emphsizes the
transition between building and landscape. In the centre of the room stands an
onlive tree which refers to the mountain flora and gives the impression that
the slope continues through the villa.
The
water of the pool that flows over the edge, creates the visual relation and
illusion to its surroundings. Optically the water of the pool flows over into
the water of the bay. The pool lies towards the bay which gives direction to
your view over the ocean, this is accentuated by the cantilever construction.
A
sloped roof covers the entire villa. Due to the natural airflow in the loggia
and the cooling effect of the pool, even in full summer the air conditioning is
only used occasionally.
In a
modern and unique way the roof emphasizes the special qualities of the villa
due to its typological similarity to surrounding houses and the transition
spaces that connect inside and outside.
