The "Daryakenar Villa" is located on a residential beach town in the north of Iran in a context where traditionally, most buildings have sloped roofs due to the climate of the region with heavy rainfalls.
The client wished to have a villa of around 1000 SQM in three levels; the bedrooms on the ground floor with more privacy, the living spaces on the first floor which have a great view towards the sea, and a linear swim pool on the second floor.
The building is a pure mass on the ground floor with an introverted spatial organization, allocated to the bedrooms with openings to the courtyards. The first-floor level is dedicated to the living spaces settled in a vast wide horizontal void, looking towards the sea which extends itself towards the exterior, connecting the whole level to the surrounding area defining itself as an extroverted organization. The upper level belongs to a private pool, directed to the sea which connects the core of the villa to the courtyards on the east and west sides.
This villa is active in its sections through the vertical and horizontal voids running in different parts of the building, creating and connecting different interfering phantom spaces.
There are four types of voids in the villa; two vertical voids, functioning as a courtyard and an atrium connecting the three levels altogether. Then there is the central void that connects the ground floor to the first floor while floating in the middle interacting with the third type horizontal void in the first floor, the one that extends in the northern-southern axis and is linked with western-eastern vertical voids as well. And finally, the northern-southern voids inserted in the sloping roof give a sea view of the pool.
