Villas La Callada is a residential development located on the urban edge of Somo, Spain. The project consists of 11 single-family dwellings, arranged as a combination of detached and semi-detached houses, designed to integrate naturally within a low-density residential context.
The nearly flat site allows the buildings to be organized with clarity and coherence, establishing a balanced relationship between private outdoor spaces, shared circulation areas and the surrounding neighborhood. The volumetric strategy is based on compact two-storey houses with pitched roofs, creating a recognizable domestic scale while maintaining a unified architectural identity across the development.
A restrained and durable material palette defines the project. White rendered façades finished with an external insulation system (ETICS) provide visual continuity and enhance thermal performance, while sloped zinc roofs ensure longevity and resistance in a coastal climate. Dark lacquered aluminum joinery reinforces the clean geometry of the openings, and selectively placed ventilated timber façades introduce warmth and texture in specific elevations, enriching the overall composition.
Interior layouts are organized to maximize natural light and cross ventilation, with living, dining and kitchen areas conceived as open and flexible spaces strongly connected to the exterior through large glazed openings. The orientation of each dwelling has been carefully considered to optimize daylight conditions and reinforce the relationship between indoor spaces and private gardens.
Villas La Callada reflects an architectural approach focused on simplicity, functional clarity and careful attention to construction and detail, offering contemporary housing solutions that respond sensitively to their urban context.
