Preserving the charm of the First Republic villa has been one of the priorities since the beginning of the reconstruction of Villa 63, a café on the border of Vinohrady and Vršovice. Therefore, we kept and repaired as many original elements as possible in the space, including windows, doors, radiators and grilles for air conditioning.
Adapting the space for café purposes was a challenge, especially in terms of layout, with the biggest intervention being to connect all three rooms into one large open room, which houses the main bar. Its orange and pink colour combination creates a contrast to the predominantly beige and gold historic features, while the rounded corners of the bar loosely follow the rounded shapes of these features.
A new atypical staircase directly from the garden provides convenient access to the building. The visitor enters through the conservatory, which is dominated by a new floor of traditional terrazzo with a distinctive circle. The main area has a wooden floor, uncharacteristic of a gastro operation, which, although more susceptible, also gives the space the impression of a First Republic living room. The traditional but less common parquet ‘five fingers’ pattern was chosen.
