In Australia, Auditors-General are officers of the Parliament. The Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) required a new workplace due to the end of a lease agreement. As such this fast-tracked project involved the briefing, design, documentation and construction of a new interior in a seven-month window of opportunity, from inception to moving-in.
The project seeks to strike an appropriate balance between professionalism and dignity befitting the office, without creating a result that is too polished, slick or corporate. The reliance on a muted colour palette and natural materials, along with some design features that were perhaps reminiscent of the early 20th Century office, allowed the design team to strike this balance.
