VICENTE SUAREZ 123 is a renovation project that originated as a counter response to today's global policies of programed obsolescence, production of the disposable, and massive accumulation of waste. With this project, we sought to recover a 1950s apartment's value, in one of the most enigmatic neighborhoods of Mexico City, and highlight the richness in the architectural characteristics of these times that have been lost with the abrupt and unstopping growth of the city, like: natural illumination and ventilation, high ceilings, natural material and hand-crafted finishes. Preserving the building's style and the nature in which it is inhabited, we proposed a reordering of spaces and priorities that molds better to the way of living of the contemporary citizen. The most substantial paradigm in this case is the Kitchen. What was once the place of the help, dark, only functional, and closed; has become the most concurring place in a house. If you visit Casa-Estudio Luis Barragan or Casa Giraldi, the Kitchen is left out of the Tour ! The kitchen is now a place of gathering, where people read, work, plan, and converse. In this way, we generate a better flow within the apartment, where each spaces serves its purpose as part of a whole.
