The project of the
Vienna House of Music starts from the idea of enhancing the place where is
inserted, a green area located on the Ringstrabe, a wide elegant boulevard that
surrounds the historic center of Vienna and to appear some of the most
important monuments of the capitol. Placed at the entrance of the park, the
building is designed as a flexible organization, open to the city and its
inhabitants, a town square in which to strengthen social bonds and develop the
culture. Starting from the dual nature of the building, which simultaneously
performs the function of school and auditorium, it was decide to place their
spheres of influence in diametrically opposite points, to ensure the
independence of flows of different user. The space generated by the interposition
of two functional areas then gave rise to the creation of a partition, the
“Monolith”, whose position is suitable to host an exhibition space in it, and
thanks to large windows offer views of generous and ever-changing from the
building to context.
