The dwellers expressed a strong wish for the building not to have the appearance of a large complex but rather to relate to the scale of surrounding villas and farmhouses. Therefore we designed each dwelling with its own pitched roof. The houses are gathered around a common dining room.Much effort was put in to design the homes to suit the users' specific needs of universal design. The six homes are clad in grey brick, Vetlanda has a strong tradition of brick building, while the common areas are clad in black painted wood. The roof is clad in aluzink. Special parts of the building have been given more refined detailing, such as the white painted wooden ribbons on the private terraces and the brick sills. The building has a low energy profile, our calculations estimate an energy usage of just 33 kWh/m² for heating which will be further lowered with the use of geothermal heating. The design had to adapt to a strict budget and tight time frame.
