Vertigo is an installation for the final presentation and exhibition of the (n)certainties Studio at Columbia University GSAPP. The installation examines material behavior by investigating processes of design computation that are synthesized with physical materialization. The goal was to understand, document, and research “embedded form,” which is the latent material gestalt of any material system. The material used was pork intestines (2 km) due to its inherent impermanence, integrating a notion of “life span”. This was supplemented by themes such as catenaries and shrinking with the aim of transforming controlled trajectories from Computing to Biotopic affects.
