A single family residence and major remodel of an existing Ventura beach house, steps from the sand in the Pierpont Beach neighborhood.
The owners are avid sailors. We wanted to create a very private living space for them that reflected certain aspects of boat life -- beautiful views, linear and angular shapes, warm lush woods and broad swaths of canvas cutting across the sky.
The site is located in a dense neighborhood and boasts beautiful vistas of mountains to the east and ocean to the west. The design highlights the views and maximizes natural light while maintaining complete privacy. The owners love the way the two thin eastern widows artfully frame Two Trees, a local Ventura icon.
From a form perspective, the residence is designed as an additive set of architectonic shapes melded into a coherent form and rationalization. The forms are functional from the exterior and experienced from the interior. The materials used address the severe oxidation of the harsh salt air and weather over time.
