Together with the architect and the principal, Thermoflor has developed a
daylight construction with an area of 6000 m2 for the atrium and curtain
walls of the Venco Campus at Eersel. The assignment was that the
structure was to conform the principles of passive building, and to meet
the requirements of the coveted BREEAM (Building Research Establishment
Environmental Assessment Method) Excellent certificate.
To ensure compliance with those requirements, the glass structure must
have an extremely high air density and a high insulation value. Within
twelve months we therefore developed, tested and installed a new glazing
system.
Independent tests have shown that our system meets the relevant
requirements both in trial set-ups and in practice. The physical
requirements are comparable with those of a 100-m-high building. The U
value of the glass structure is 0.8 W/m2K. In the BREEAM analysis, our
anodised profile system was found to perform better than an insulating
wooden or a plastic frame.
