The new Van Doren Waxter Gallery is located on the piano nobile of a converted historic townhouse at 25 East 73rd street. We have reconfigure the interior to simultaneously celebrate the intrinsic architectural volume of the existing structure while creating a space designed to privilege art and the viewing experience.
Starting with the existing volume, subtle gestures reinterpret and reinforce the original spaces: an entry foyer in the center, the main gallery with french doors opening onto a balcony facing 73rd street and a second gallery/showroom facing the rear garden. Ample office and art storage spaces are located on two adjacent floors.
