The Uzbekistan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, titled "Garden of Knowledge – A Laboratory for a Future Society", translates the country’s cultural heritage and future ambitions into a spatial narrative. Conceived as a social learning space, it invites visitors to engage with questions of sustainability, innovation, and collective progress.
The architecture is designed as an archetypal landscape: a solid base of clay and brick represents earth, roots, and cultural memory, while a lightweight timber structure forms an open “forest” above – a place for exchange, dialogue, and knowledge sharing. This clear spatial metaphor reflects Uzbekistan’s transformation and its openness toward the future.
Sustainability is embedded in both concept and construction. The pavilion uses natural and locally sourced materials, including timber, clay, and recycled brick, combined in a modular system designed for disassembly and reuse. Passive strategies such as thermal mass and shading reduce energy demand while enhancing spatial comfort.
Extending its lifecycle beyond the Expo, the pavilion’s wooden sculpture is being reconstructed in Nukus, Uzbekistan as part of a children’s library and cultural campus, transforming a temporary structure into a lasting social and educational resource.
Through architecture, immersive storytelling, interactive media, and a scenographic visitor journey, the pavilion connects tradition with contemporary innovation, positioning Uzbekistan as a forward-looking society shaped by knowledge, collaboration, and responsible resource use.
