SITUATED BETWEEN EUROPE AND ASIA AND PART OF AN EMERGING NATIONISTANBUL HAS A UNIQUE GEOGRAPHICAL AND GEOPOLITICAL SITUATION.FENER AND BALAT INHABITANTS ARE MOSTLY MIGRANTS FROM ANATOLIA IN THEBLACK SEA, 40% OF WHOM HAVE LIVED IN THE CITY FOR LESS THAN FIVEYEARS AND ARE STRONGLY ATTACHED TO THEIR FORMER RURAL WAY OF LIFE.ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE POPULATION WITHIN OTHER AREAS OF ISTANBULIS MUCH MORE INTEGRATED, A MAJORITY STILL DOES NOT HAVE ANYCONNECTION WITH THE REST OF THE CITY.THEREFORE, A MICRO-SOCIETY IS NECESSARY HERE AS IT OFFERS ANIMPORTANT CULTURAL TOUCHSTONE IN ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSEDISTRICT OF THE CITY.SURROUNDED BY BYZANTINE WALLS FROM THE 5TH CENTURY TO THE WEST,THE GOLDEN HORN TO THE NORTH, FENER AND BALAT DISTRICTS ARE LOCATEDON THE HISTORIC PENINSULA OF ISTANBUL.THE MAIN ISSUE IN FENER BALAT IS THE POOR NUMBER OF CONNECTIONSWITH GOLDENHORN RIVERSIDE.THE GOAL IS TO CREATE A URBAN WINDOWS TO OPEN THE DISTRICT TOTHE REST OF ISTANBUL, AN URBAN LOUNGE FOR THE LOCAL INHABITANTSCONNECTING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES.
