This is a competition entry for the 3rd Advanced Architecture Contest called "The Self-Sufficient City".The
site is located off Tallinn city centre in a former limestone quarry
and waste dumping zone. They have started to convert the wasteland
into a park and a recreation area. Plans to build blocks of flats,
some shops, the local district government office and a library are
being approved.This
proposal will house all these outlined functions into a single
self-sustainable shell, appending some additional qualities
and reducing the ecological footprint. The former waste dumping area
and limestone mine will be converted into a vital multifunctional
district with dwelling, food growing facilities, offices and
workshops.Once
completed the self-sufficient building URBAN OASIS will be operating
off grid. Excess output from the wind generators might be provided to
the public grid and new urban farmers will probably be happy to sell
their products for the delight of locavores.
