Baxter Projects approached an urban boat club to offer a vision of what its quickly growing organization might be - the result is a proposal for a 20,000 sf non-profit urban boathouse and residential hotel for the waterfront Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint.
The broad side of the building faces the underside of a bridge and presents itself as a shallow building that proudly displays 200+ canoes stored vertically along the length of the site. The community education center and boathouse operations will take the lower floors and a residential hotel with offices will take the upper floors. To connect with the industrial past and present of Greenpoint, the construction is envisioned as partially pre-fabricated in the neighborhood, utilizing the unique talents and skills of local artisans and industrial businesses still located in the neighborhood.
