Today the entrepreneurial spirit is prevailing in the larger cities. For more and more people the day is not divided in fixed categories - and the dream about the good life concerns living and working in other rhythms than the well known 09 to 17. Concepts as flexibility, symbiosis, exchange and resource efficiency are important for many Danes, which shows us that alternative ways of thinking life and society structures are in high demand. The progress of the sharing economy is a perfect example of this tendency.
But how can the sharing economy be manifested in physical spaces? That has been the leading question in the development of Upcycle Studios. Lendager Group has focused on sharing economy, because the basic idea about access instead of ownership concerns several essential aspects of sustainable development. Partly because the sharing economy is about sustainable initiatives - to share resources. And partly are new communities created in the sharing environments. Last but not least the sharing economy benefits both the consumer and the owner’s economy.
The architecture of Upcycle Studios is based on the principles of circular economy. Lendager Group has used upcycled concrete, windows and wood - which have had a previous life in another house. The materials are processed, so they both in quality and function as well as aesthetically appear as newly produced materials - but without producing new materials.
