Expansion and renovation of the University of Oregon School of Music + Dance created clarity in a complex of facilities from different eras. During the planning process, the studies showed a lack of acoustical isolation, a shortage of teaching practice and rehearsal space, and a need for additional small performance venues. The first phase of improvements aligns two additions on the east edge of the complex, enclosing an existing courtyard and creating a dedicated outdoor environment for the school. A student hearth inside the more southern addition provides casual gathering space inside the building. The objective of the photography consisted of: illustrating the multi-purpose spaces as they were in use, showcasing the abundant natural light that floods many of the spaces, and sneaking an occasional outside view. Combined with several "hero" photographs on the exterior, our assignment was completed.
