The Center for Urban Horticulture and Water Conservation is housed on this 9.72 acre site and was founded in 1996 as a joint venture between UNLV, UNR, Cooperative Extension, and the City of North Las Vegas. The center is comprised of large research fields containing turfgrass and ornamental trees along with an extensive fruit orchard. To fulfill research grant requirements, APTUS assisted UNLV with preparing a phased master plan to upgrade the research facilities, provide new spaces for community outreach, new greenhouses, improve accessibility in the public areas, and provide a parking area. New storage and workshop facilities were integrated with existing buildings and landscaping. A steel trellis was designed to create an outdoor classroom area while also allowing for existing mature palm trees to be kept in place.
