This new 8800sqm faculty building for the University of Lleida was won through an international design competition. Lleida’s innovative curriculum translated into an equally innovative design solution, with flexible lecture theatres and teaching organised around a four-storey central atrium, and central administration, dining and student services at lower and upper ground. With inspiration taken from the Basque sculptor, Chilida, the form and massing of the building also accommodates a wide climatic range while minimising energy demand.
