The WCUP and the SCCP at the University of Chicago are of special interest to me.  They are in line with our work which emphasizes the Integration of Architecture and Engineering.Approached the correct way, both projects remove the subjective aspects of design and aesthetics and require a rational approach, based on function, performance, materials and construction.  The resulting expression needs to be more than the sum of these parts, but can become a piece of art, displaying technical equipment and its working in a celebratory way.The fact that the engineers have started before the architect is very helpful in understanding the task and the requirements.  It is like having a drawn program.  Based on the relationships of the two plants to their very different surroundings, we might explore in the design process with the engineers alternative arrangements of equipment and construction with the goal of optimizing function, performance and appearance.  We are looking for this collaborative process, which is key to the projects success.
