The University of Akron Wayne College serves three Ohio counties, providing a range of educational opportunities on its commuter campus. The College, together with The Collaborative, analyzed the campus and its offerings in light of future needs. Through a series of workshops and meetings, input was gathered from students, community members, and staff. The College then developed a program for a new 37,000 SF building to serve as the new campus hub - providing classrooms, bookstore, student dining, student lounge areas, academic services and multi-purpose rooms.
The multi-purpose rooms can be subdivided to create five separate rooms, or opened into one room capable of hosting groups up to 450. The adjacent catering kitchen accommodates meals and refreshments brought in from outside caterers.
The second floor accommodates staff offices, conference room, computer lab, testing room, and a training room dedicated to Community Education and Workforce Development programs.
